Totally tropical fashion

Caribbean Fashion Week may not be as well-known as London, Paris, Milan or New York, but what it lacks in notoriety it makes up for in passion, energy and emerging design talent. Desmond Murray at Atherton Cox was invited to take part in the event held in Jamaica between 7th and 11th June, where he was lead session stylist for a number of the catwalk collections.

Now in its 12th year, Caribbean Fashion Week showcases an international list of young, artistic designers all with distinct Caribbean roots. Designers included Cedella Marley, four-time Grammy winner and daughter of one of Jamaica’s most famous residents, the late Bob Marley, who presented her new ‘High Tide’ swimwear collection, alongside her Puma-commissioned designs for the Jamaican Olympic team. Tigerlilly, a London-based designer who trained at Central Saint Martins also made a bold statement at her first CFW under her label Crown Atelier.

Commenting Desmond said, “There was a great vibe at the shows and the collections were really exciting – there is a lot of talent coming out of the Caribbean islands at the moment. I have to admit that the stunning Jamaican location helped make it one of my most enjoyable fashion weeks this year.”
